Authorities said they are investigating a shooting at a park and recreation center in Prince George’s County.
The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. Thursday at the Birchwood Community Park and Recreation Center, according to the Prince George’s County Division of the Maryland-National Capital Park Police. The park is in the 1300 block of Fenwood Avenue in Oxon Hill.
Authorities said a 16-year-old was shot after he encountered a group of people he knew on the grounds of the recreation center. When the group saw him walking in the park, they began pursuing him, authorities said.
One of the four people pulled out a handgun and fired at the victim, striking him several times. Police did not say where the teenager was struck.
When police responded they found the victim nearby at the Oxon Hill Volunteer Fire Department, where he had run for help. He was later transported to a nearby hospital where he is in good condition.
Investigators said they believe that a “days-old argument between the victim and a friend of the gun-wielding group of suspects led” to the incident.
